Equipment, circulation & system performance
FLOW & VOLUME · PUMPS & HEATING · FILTRATION & BACKWASH CONTROLSEffective circulation starts with the needs of the vessel and the limits of the existing system. We calculate pool, spa, and water-feature volumes, required flow rates, and turnover times, then review piping capacity, pressure losses, and measured operating conditions to establish practical performance targets.
Pump sizing considers the required flow and total dynamic head—the resistance the pump must overcome—alongside pump performance curves and the demands of connected equipment. We evaluate variable-frequency drive (VFD) applications, speed control, and operating schedules to match circulation needs while considering energy use and equipment compatibility. Heat-loss and heating-demand calculations help assess heater, heat-pump, and heat-exchanger sizing for the intended water temperature, environment, and operating schedule.
Filter sizing connects the required flow with effective filtration area, media selection, and filtration loading rates. We assess existing equipment, replacement options, valve and manifold arrangements, and the flow needed for effective backwashing. Backwash planning includes flow rate, cycle duration, total water volume, tank holding capacity, and discharge capacity, with the sequence of individual filters considered as part of the complete system.
Monitoring and controls help verify that the system performs as intended. We evaluate flow, filter inlet and outlet pressures, pressure differential, and tank-level monitoring, along with alarms and control interlocks. Automatic backwashing options can coordinate valves, pump speeds, cycle timing, and filter sequences through compatible controllers. Recommendations connect equipment sizing and control settings with operating procedures, maintenance, and operator training.
